How does eGrow Connect estimate load footage?

eGrow Connect uses the Unit of Measure (UoM) information that is entered in the Item Sizes Library for each item size to calculate the load footage estimate. The footage divisor of the truck, created in the Trucks list of the Shipping module.

Specifically, the volume (freight factor) assigned in the Item Size Library will be combined with other items’ volume and the total will be divided by the footage divisor for the truck to estimate the footage for the order.

Example Scenario: The truck is a 53’ semi truck that may hold 10,000 units. Divide 10,000 units by 53’ to get a freight factor of 188. Let’s say you need to load 300 5-gallon plants on the truck, each with a unit volume of 7. Multiply the number of 5-gallon plants by 7 for a total of 2,100 units. Now divide 2,100 units by the freight factor of 188 to get the total footage that the 300 plants will need. In this case, the footage needed is 11’.
