Setup the Label/Tab Printing Add-on Module
This is part of the Label/Tag Printing Add-on Module.
The following steps will walk you through the setup for the Label/Tag Printing Add-on Module. This will include:
- Setting up a Dropbox as a go-between for eGrow Connect and the label/tag software, BarTender.
- Integrating BarTender, the software used to create label and tag templates, and eGrow Connect, where all of the inventory information for the tags will come from.
- Creating label/tag templates that will be populated with eGrow information.
- Setting up necessary information in eGrow Connect to finalize the process.
- At the completion of these steps, you will be ready to print labels and/or tags for your items directly from eGrow Connect.
Note: This process will take some time, so please plan accordingly.

Dropbox Setup
- Create a Dropbox free account. We recommend creating a free account just for this purpose, even if you have a separate personal account.
- In eGrow Connect, navigate to
System Setup > Integrations > Label/Tag Printing > BarTender Settings.
- Complete Step 1 to establish a connection between eGrow Connect and the Dropbox account.
- Complete Step 2 to test the connection.
- Complete Step 3 to enter the *exact* Dropbox location where the label/tag templates will be found. You can get the exact location by right-clicking on the folder in Dropbox, select Properties, then copy and paste the location into the open field in Step 3.
- Complete Step 4 to create field data template and folders.
BarTender Integration Setup
Complete Step 5 by setting up the BarTender Integration
- Open the BarTender Integration Builder.
- Select Create New Integration.
- Select File, then click OK. We will now walk you through the setup for each portion of the left pane called “File Integration”.
- First, click Integration. Name the integration “eGrow Connect Integration”.
- Next, click File Detection.
- In the “Folder to Scan” field, Browse to Dropbox\Apps\egrowConnect\Scan\A
- In the “Scan Method” field, select Polling Only
- For “Polling Interval”, enter 10 seconds.
- For “File Idle Time”, enter 5 seconds.
- For “Actions After Detection”, select the action Delete File.
- For “Action After Failure”, select the action Rename File, and “New Extension” will say “failed”
- Now, click Input Data on the left.
- For “Input Encoding”, select Unicode (UTF-8)
- In the left pane, under Actions:
- Hover your mouse next to Print Document and click the X to delete.
- Click the icon next to Actions
- In the popup window, select Print Command Script, then click OK.
- Click the Save Icon at the top of the window, and enter the File Name: egrow-connect-integration-file.btin, click Save.
- Click Deploy Integration in the taskbar.
- The Deployment Name is egrow-connect-integration, then click OK.
- The BarTender Administrator Console will open showing the deployed integration. Click on Start if it is not already started, click OK to close, then close the BarTender Administrator Console window.
- Close the BarTender Integration window.
- BarTender is now ready to accept tag and label printing jobs from eGrow Connect!
Creating Label/Tag Templates
Complete Step 6 by creating Label/Tab templates
Refer to the instructional PDF or view this video on how to Create label or tag templates in BarTender. It is important to remember that a tag file can only be printed by the printer selected when the tag was built. If you want to print the same tag with a different printer, you will need to create a new tag file and connect it to the new printer.
eGrow Connect Setup
Complete Step 7 to set up your Printer and Label/Tag lists. Setup the printer list first, then the label/tag list.
Printer List Setup
- Navigate to eGrow Connect,
System Setup > Integrations > Label/Tag Printing > Printer List. All printers that print Labels/Tags must be added to this Printer List
- Click
Add.
- The Printer Name must be the *exact* printer name used on your PC.
- The Custom Name will be a common name (i.e. North Farm Printer)
- Select a Data Folder for this printer. eGrow Connect allows space for 4 printers to connect, the first will be A, the second B, and so forth.
- Click Submit after each printer.
Label/Tag List Setup
- Navigate to eGrow Connect, System Setup > Integrations > Label/Tag Printing > Label/Tag List.
- Click
Add in the right pane to enter a new Label/Tag template.
- Enter the *exact* file name and extension of the new template. Incorrectly entering the file name is a common mistake.
- Enter a Description name that may include the printer name (i.e. Plant ID tag for Main Office Printer, Plant ID tag for Shipping Office Printer)
- Select the printer that the tag was set up to print to from the list.
- Click Submit after each label/tag.
